Kale Red & White Russian Mix

by Maureen Sullivan on April 17, 2014

Sun. Allow 1 square foot per plant.  Russian kale (which actually originated in Canada) is a tender, cut leaf variety of kale.  Red Russian has green leaves with a purple stem and veining while White Russian has a white stem and white veining. White Russian kale plants tend to be extremely vigorous with huge leave.  White Russian withstands very cold temperatures.  Either variety, if left to overwinter, will send out new leaves early in the spring then begin to bolt. These flower buds are delectable.
