Salvia carduacea Thistle Sage

by Maureen Sullivan on March 13, 2014

Salvia-Thistle-SageFull sun.  1 to 3 feet.  Thistle sage has lovely lavender blossoms with small bright orange anthers.  On each stem a flower cluster is produced. The stem continues up out of that flower cluster then produces yet another flower cluster. That pattern continues on resulting in tiers of blossoms on one stem.  The fuzzy, silver gray foliage of Thistle Sage has a pleasing fragrance. Plant in very well drained soil. This plant will not do well in soggy, heavy soils. Use in the border, container and for cutting.
