Columbine/Aquilegia Canadensis

by Maureen Sullivan on January 20, 2023

Partial Shade.  Height 16″, spread 12″. Perennial.  This sweet spring bloomer offers such joy early in the season.  Its red flowers’ nodding heads are delightful planted among other native plants.  In our garden we allow this native Columbine to roam among the mountain laurels, wild high bush blueberries, may apples and hepatica and violets.  Hummingbirds visit these plants throughout the day while they remain in bloom.  Allow some seed heads to ripen to help spread this little spring wonder.
