Sun. This Italian eggplant variety is 5 days earlier than Nadia. Beatrice has a similar shape, flavor and texture as the late maturing heirloom Rosa Bianca. When picked at the optimum size, its skin is very thin. Beatrice has become our kitchen’s favorite eggplant. Pick fruits when fruits are 4 to 5″ long and 4 to 5″ across.
Full sun. Calliope is an Indian eggplant variety. Indian eggplants are purported to be sweeter than Italian eggplants with a thinner skin. The fruits of Calliope are round with a white streaked purple skin. For baby eggplant harvest when 2″ long or mature at 3 to 4 inches long.
Sun. Allow 1 square foot per plant. Nadia is a classic large Italian eggplant. Plants set glossy purple fruit, even under cool conditions.
Our go-to variety of Italian eggplant, Nadia, has been supplanted by Nigral. Touted as a spineless variety setting fruit under more variable weather/climate conditions.
Full sun. Long and sleek 8-10″ long, 1 1/2-2 1/2″ diameter deep glossy purple fruits. Orient Express is an early variety that can set fruit in cool weather and during periods of heat stress as well. The flesh of this variety is tender and delicately flavored.
Full sun. Rosa Bianca eggplant is an heirloom variety grown for its plump, round, 4-6″ long by 5-7″ diameter fruit streaked with white and violet. Its skin is thin and flesh is mild tasting with a creamy texture.
Sun. Allow 1 square foot per plant. Swallow is an early producing Asian type eggplant variety bearing glossy, purple, tapered 7 inch fruits. Swallow will produce well even in cool weather.
Full sun. Turkish Delight is an asian eggplant with rich flavor packed into 8 to 10 inch long fruit.
Sun. 10 to 24″. Glitz adds an airy dimension, with its small-leaf foliage and tiny white flowers, to mixed containers. A foamy spray of blossoms. This plant has a very long continuous bloom period, right up to frost.
Full sun. 6 to 10 feet. This fast growing vine is a hummingbird magnet. It is adorned with long vivid blossoms that start out red and fade to orange then yellow and finally white as each blossom ages. All of those colors are present on each stem at one time. This plant will bloom summer into the fall. This plant prefers a moist well drained soil.
