Indeterminate tomato vines set flowers until frost kills the plant. Indeterminate plants give you a long harvest season. Staking or trellising is recommended for indeterminate plants. Suckering of indeterminate plants is recommended for slicing varieties so that you get a good number of larger tomatoes (suckering is not necessary for cherry tomatoes).
Full sun. With its port-wine color and metallic green stripes, Pink Berkeley Tie dye is an on-the-vine show stopper. This early producer has a slight tangy-rich flavor. PBTD is an open pollinated tomato, though technically not an heirloom, it has all the good attributes of an heirloom (flavor, visual interest) but it also has the some of best qualities of hybrid varieties. It is a midseason tomato that, in our 2025 trial of PBTD, did not crack or have any tendency to make whacky shaped fruit. We will be growing more of this variety in our garden from now on.
Full sun. Striped German is a gorgeous heirloom tomato with large yellow fruit that is blushed with red. Fruits are extremely meaty and sweet. A Left Field Farm favorite.

Full sun. Indeterminate vine. We offered Yellow Brandywine for the first time last season. It’s fair to say that we had our doubts that Yellow Brandywine could hold a candle to Pink Brandywine in a flavor comparison. We can now say the Yellow Brandywine held its own in that comparison. Sweet and juicy with a complex flavor Yellow Brandywine produces fruit late season, as does Pink Brandywine.
Sun. Tomatoes are classified as either indeterminate, that is the tomato vine sets flowers until frost kills the plant, or determinate. Determinate tomato plants have a specific time period for producing flowers that will then set fruit and ripen. Indeterminate plants give you a longer harvest season. Staking or trellising is recommended for indeterminate plants. Suckering of indeterminate plants is recommended for slicing varieties so that you get a good number of larger tomatoes (suckering is not necessary for cherry tomatoes). Caging determinate types will help to keep the fruit off the ground toreduce pest nibbling. Determinate types are not suckered.
